Hex Does the Blog Thing
August 1, 2026: Blaugust!
i've been thinking about getting back into journalling for a while now, so when i heard about a little thing called blaugust, it sounded like a good time to do it! i don't really know anything about like, the Blogging Community or anything like that, and this is my first time hearing about the event, so i'm just gonna be chill about it and write some stuff now and again i guess. historically it takes me several hours to write a post like this and i always feel exhausted by the end, so i don't really want to be doing that daily, but maybe weekly is a good goal to reach for? still not gonna hold myself to it or anything. as i always say with these types of challenges, anything you do is more than you had before you started, including just thinking about it. i'm not here to break records or be recognized by anyone. i'm just here to get words out of my brain.
of course, now that i'm sitting here writing this, i've forgotten eveyrthing i wanted to write about. other than, obviously, ffxiv. i always want to talk about ffxiv. but there's always this little voice in my head going "ok but the people who Frequent your personal website (if "frequenting" is a term you could apply to anyone here) probably aren't ffxiv knowers," so i'd either have to explain a lot of stuff so that we're all on the same page, or just pretend my audience is made strictly of ffxiv knowers. but like, if i wanted to talk to ffxiv knowers, i'd just talk to my friends. and they already know most or all of the things i want to ramble about. so i'm back to square one.
well, it'll put words on the page, that's for sure.
i have a lot of thoughts about raiding - on a micro gameplay level as well as more macro considerations about community, statics, cooperation, skills, parsing, energy and dedication, and more. so that's at least one post. then of course i want to yap about gposing, which is essentially virtual photography. some of that gets into modding, which is kind of a DADT subject in ffxiv, and could probably get a post of its own too. i could write an entire novel's worth about my ffxiv blorbo. not to mention all the other video games i've been playing.
i did rekindle my interest in the enneagram recently, so that's something i can definitely yap about. how i use it to construct characters and to understand myself, and just like, everything about Sleeping At Last's series of songs and his podcast which i recently found! in a similar vein i've got my tarot cards. gosh i have so many tarot cards. and then there's the D&D campaign i started with friends! and my cats! oh and i guess there's the small IRL thing i've been dealing with.
as i remember all these things and put them in a mental pile, i start thinking about their categories. there's stuff that's recent or ongoing, which makes sense to write about. there's stuff that's old and established but i've never really written about it. there's things i've microblogged about a bunch, but i want to collect all my little thoughts together. if i were a more experienced website maker i would figure out how to get tags and dates and searching on my journal, but for now it will simply be html and vibes. as always, there's a lot of stuff i wish my website did better, but it's just far enough outside my knowledge base that the effort i'd have to put in to even get started seems really daunting. "one day," i tell myself, over and over again. maybe that'll become true at some point! maybe not.
